Government Procurement

Why Train on This Topic?

Government agencies purchase billions of dollars in products and services each year and they represent an attractive market for many companies. However, the rules about selling to the private sector and selling to the government are different. Violating a government procurement law or regulation not only can result in loss of the contract but also can lead to civil or criminal penalties. In this environment, companies must arm their employees with basic knowledge of key government contracting rules and regulations in order to manage contracts successfully and steer clear of ethical and legal violations.

As an example, the Critique exercise from the course is described below:

Gail calls Sharon, a government employee, with questions about an upcoming government request for proposal ("RFP"). Gail and Sharon talk about the RFP, and Sharon inquires about employment opportunities at Gail's company. After viewing the conversation, the learner is asked to identify which of Gail's comments and questions were appropriate and which were inappropriate. Through feedback, learners identify good questions to ask of agency contacts, topics to avoid, and important distinctions between private contracting and government contracting.
